STEADY REST (MLA-9).
The steady rest can be machined to fit any lathe of 9 inch or greater
swing. The outstanding feature is its six inch diameter capacity. Of course
it is not intended to handle solid billets of that diameter, but those
who make boilers may find it handy for trimming barrels. For the normal
class of work the steady rest is easily robust enough to handle solid
billets up to three inch diameter or larger. The kit for making the steady
rest consists of five iron castings, drawings, and machining suggestions.
